After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, Mike built a a nine-year career at the corporate office of The Home Depot serving as an internal consultant focused on process improvement. He held several different roles of increasing responsibility that included accounting, finance, strategy, process improvement (six sigma) and operations. Mike managed the quantitative analysis team that was responsible for global pricing, product placement and yield management for all Tool Rental locations. In this role he led the cultural change in management philosophy to a centralized, data-driven approach resulting in increased control, efficiency and profitability.
 
In 2006 Mike left The Home Depot to work for ShawHankins: an insurance brokerage firm headquartered in Cartersville. As Chief Financial Officer he was responsible for financial operations, administrative operations, database development and special projects. At the time, ShawHankins was experiencing substantial growth and Mike was involved in forming the new corporate strategy. Then he developed and implemented the financial and operational infrastructure to support it. These changes provided the scalability to allow continued growth from a small business to a regional competitor with several locations throughout Georgia.
 
In 2010 Mike founded Murphy CFO - a boutique consulting firm focused on assisting business owners with strategic planning and the development of infrastructure needed for profitable, sustainable growth.
 
Additionally, Mike was an investor and served as COO / CFO for Quoteburst Inc. from 2010 to 2019. Mike was instrumental in the growth and expansion of the software business which led to ultimately providing automated quotes for over 8,000 Allstate agents throughout the United States. Starting in 2015, Quoteburst was the largest vendor for Allstate Corporation and maintained that position for several years. Mike sold his ownership stake in 2019.
 
Today, Murphy CFO continues to work with a select group of businesses on the journey of profitable growth.
 
In the local community, Mike has served in numerous volunteer roles, some of which include Finance Chair for the Cartersville/Bartow Chamber of Commerce, Director and Chairman of the Etowah Scholarship Foundation, a volunteer on the Advocates for Children finance committee, the Treasurer for the Cartersville/Bartow Exchange Club and a board member at Cartersville Little League, among others. He is a graduate of Leadership Bartow through the Cartersville/Bartow Chamber of Commerce and lives in Cartersville, Georgia with his wife and three children.
